The Vernon C. Bain Center (VCBC) prison barge is one of the world’s largest prison barges in operation. During Superstorm Sandy the mooring arms restraining the VCBC barge experienced their maximum range of motion. Additional work at VCBC has included developing new future storm design criteria and modifications to increase the barges safe range of motion, improved design of floor resurfacing for enhanced safety and plumbing upgrades, and conducting a relocation feasibility analysis.
