Upon McLaren Engineering Group’s inspection of Grassy Point Road Bridge, also known as Beach Road, over Minisceongo Creek in the Town of Haverstraw in Rockland County, New York, it was discovered that a complete betsafe casino online|Welcome was vital to mitigate safety concerns for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. Grassy Point Road Bridge Inspection

Walter C. Johnson Center for Health & Wellness is a 115,000-sq-ft, two-story addition to the Hackley School’s educational complex in Tarrytown, NY. The LEED Gold Certified supplement was developed as an athletic facility and student center for the K-12, Day and Boarding School campus.

Positioned on the side of a forested mountain of rock, directly over a New York City aqueduct, the site’s beautiful campus topography proved to pose a significant access challenge. Project goals centered on seamlessly incorporating the new construction into the site’s natural landscape while saving as many existing boulders and trees as possible. However, due to the complex topography, the foundation had to be carved out and the crushed rock was used for fill material.

McLaren provided civil engineering services included site plan approval and civil design of the sites amenities, roadways, parking, and stormwater management.

K-12 School Health & Wellness Center

Working closely with the architect and landscape architect, McLaren’s civil engineers helped support a seamless development of the new building into the natural mountain landscape through integration of the grading, drainage, and stormwater management.

Our team prepared a comprehensive study to develop a preliminary stormwater plan for the Walter C. Johnson Center for Health & Wellness, investigating current and potential future runoff to develop a preliminary plan for stormwater detention.

Permitting

Inspections were performed in conformance with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Pollution Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) for Discharges for Construction Activities, General Permit GP-0-15-002 (General Permit). This involved assessment of: all erosion and sediment control practices to ensure integrity and effectiveness, all post-construction stormwater management practices under construction to ensure that they are constructed in conformance with the A Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), and all points of discharge from the construction site.

Stormwater Planters

At the building’s grand entrance, McLaren coordinated with the landscape architect to create stormwater planters. The stunning water features were designed to pass the overflow stormwater runoff, they then infiltrate into the stormwater planter to meet runoff reduction requirements. When it isn’t raining, the design provides a simple dry aesthetic.

The infamous I-40 Bridge collapse occurred just southeast of Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, at 7:45 am on the morning of May 26, 2002.

A 2,000-foot suspension bridge, which spans the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River, suffered a 580-foot portion collapse when a barge traveling upstream collided with one of its piers.

Collision + Collapse

The collapse occurred when towboat transporting barges on the Arkansas River was traversing the Robert D. Kerr Reservoir. The Captain of the towboat experienced a sudden loss of consciousness and lost control of his vessel. This, in turn, caused the barge he was towing to collide with a pier of the I-40 Bridge.

As a result, a 580-foot section of the bridge collapsed into the water. The incident resulted in more than a dozen fatalities and eleven additional injuries as eight-passenger vehicles and three semi-trucks were caused to fall into the river or on collapsed pieces of bridge.

Along a 35-mile stretch of Interstate 95, roadway signage for 19 wayfindings were removed / replaced for two service areas north of betsafe review|Most. As a multi-discipline firm, McLaren Engineering Group was able to provide topographic surveying, civil engineering, geotechnical phase support, and structural engineering design for the roadway signage support structures.

Improvements consisted of three types of I-95’s roadway signage:

  • Overhead Signs, supported on framing that spanned over all travel lanes in each direction (2 each)
  • Cantilever Signs, supported on one side that overhung the travel lanes (8 each)
  • Ground Mounted Signs, supported by posts on the side of the road (9 each)

Surveying

McLaren performed surveys of roadside conditions at all conceptual sign locations so detailed sign siting could avoid utilities and meet appropriate clearances. In order to locate bedrock, McLaren managed the geotechnical borings at the sign locations.

Design Standards

With the site survey performed and an understanding of the subsurface conditions, McLaren prepared signage plans for the removal of existing signs and the installation of new signs all located within the Maryland Transit Authority (MDTA) right-of-way. The plans meet the current design standards of MDSHA Book of Standards for Highways, Incidental Structures, and Traffic Control Operations, MDOT SHA Traffic Control Devices Design Manual, MD Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Standards and MDOT SHA Guidelines for Traffic Barrier Placement and End Treatment Design.

Calculations

Two of I-95’s roadway cantilever signs, directing travelers to a memorial in one of the service areas, were outside of the standard size allowed by state highway standards. McLaren provided calculations justifying the larger signs at these locations and were granted approval by the state highway’s structural engineering group.

During construction, McLaren provided shop drawing review for fabrication of all sign support structures to help the contractor meet accelerated fabrication and delivery schedules required by the MDTA. Plans included:

  • Electrical and Traffic Barrier Plans
  • Ground-mount, Overhead, and Cantilever Dimensions and Details
  • Signing Plan
  • Erosion/Sediment Control Plans
  • Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)/Traffic Control Details

McLaren Engineering Group provided betsafe casino online|Welcome Bonus_Supporting for this $9.7 million LIRR bridge replacement project at Post Avenue in Westbury, NY. As part of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) upgrades, the Third Track project was approved to add a tertiary track to 9.8 miles along the congested Main Line of the LIRR between Floral Park and Hicksville. The first completed project initiative since the Main Line Expansion Project has been the Replacement of the Post Avenue Bridge in Westbury, NY.

Originally built in 1914, The LIRR Post Avenue Bridge was a 63-foot single span structure carrying two tracks supported by steel thru plate girders with a concrete deck and reinforced abutments made of concrete. The 100+ year structure has been a conduit for train traffic that cars and buses pass under with an original roadway clearance of only 11 feet 10 inches. The dimensions had made it extremely vulnerable to vehicular strikes, particularly from trucks failing to clear the underpass. Although still considered in good condition, the bridge was struck over 80 times, causing numerous train and roadway delays in both directions.

LIRR Bridge Replacement with Track Addition

McLaren Engineering Group in association with Halmar International was awarded the $9.7 million LIRR design-build contract for the replacement of the Post Avenue Bridge. As engineer-of-record, McLaren was responsible for completing the final design by expanding preliminary work developed during the RFP process. McLaren was tasked with designing the replacement of the two-track bridge with a three-track bridge and increasing the vertical clearance to 14 feet to reduce outages. The team effort required betsafe sports|Most Popular_of the to keep the project on schedule and within budget.

Five months prior to replacement, the bridge superstructure began to be assembled in a parking lot adjacent to the bridge on temporary shoring towers in order to minimize rail disruptions. As part of this design-build contract, McLaren was responsible for completing the final design in order to provide LIRR with the most economical design with the least amount of impact to the community. The new bridge was installed entirely during a 48-hour weekend track outage. Throughout this meticulously planned 48-hour period, the existing bridge superstructure was rolled out and the new superstructure was rolled into its new position via self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) from the adjacent parking lot. Crews from Halmar International, Inc. worked around the clock using a unique construction method with a remote-controlled lifting device. That transporter lifted the 103-year-old bridge, which remained intact after it was cut away from its connection to the abutments, and placed into an adjacent parking lot. The contractor then had to modify the abutments to support the new bridge height. Then, the new bridge was lifted, in its entirety, and put into place over the roadway.

Work was completed in just 36 hours, all timed down to the minute to ensure no disruptions to the first train of the Monday morning rush hour. Additional work to fully complete the project included adjustments to the station platforms, installation of stairs and concrete painting and sealing work. The roadway underneath the bridge is being re-graded to provide improved sight lines for motorists, enhancing safety and meeting the latest design standards and requirements of the New York State Department of Transportation.

Completed Ahead of Schedule

The project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget due to the amount of collaborative planning involved. The LIRR Post Avenue Bridge is now 50 feet wide — 13 feet wider than its predecessor — a width that allowed for a section of third track to be placed with a clearance of 14 feet. Traffic disruptions were minimized and a strategic plan to accommodate commuters during the 48-hour rail shutdown was accomplished. The industry-wide collaboration of many moving parts proved to make the entire project a huge success.

McLaren Engineering Group also provided a transportation system impact study, erosion control design, seismic design, structural reinforcing design, and rock anchor design.

Diverging Diamond Interchange

Maxwell Place Park is the central focus of New Jersey’s Gold Coast waterfront development and features a beach, playground, kayak pavilion, pier shed and waterfront walkway. The park also includes Elysian Fields, regarded as the birthplace of modern baseball.

Adaptive Reuse of Former Maxwell House Industrial Site

McLaren assisted with the conversion design of the former Maxwell House industrial site into a mixed-use urban village along 1,000 feet of the Hudson River, featuring 800 residential units, world-class amenities, and 200,000 square feet of high-end retail and restaurant space. The McLaren team reviewed the infrastructure systems of the prior manufacturing facility – which was once the world’s largest coffee plant – and worked within betsafe sports its existing features to remodel the site for this adaptive reuse property. This included the preparation of construction documents for demolition and reconstruction of the existing pier and platforms. Two piers were incorporated into New Jersey’s Waterfront Walkway. McLaren provided marine design and bulkhead rehabilitation design for the conversion of one industrial pier and full replacement for the other pier now used as a pedestrian park. The addition of a connecting two-level underground parking area to Elysian Park on Sinatra Drive created 1,398 below-grade parking spaces without compromising the view.

Roadways, Utilities + Stormwater

McLaren prepared a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), complying with current New Jersey State Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) regulations, and designed the roadways that connect to the local street network in compliance with American with Disabilities Act (ADA) codes and specifications. McLaren also helped engineer new upgraded utilities.

Promenade Planning

Working with the project landscape architect, McLaren developed plans and sections for the promenade. Since the development connects to many rail, bus and ferry services, McLaren coordinated with the City of Hoboken to secure funding and approvals from the NJDOT. The park and promenade included the construction of on-grade walkways, pedestrian piers over the Hudson River, an emergency boat ramp, lighting, landscaping and various park and playground amenities.
